Summer in the Philippines 2017
Last summer, I went on a three week trip to the Philippines with my family. Both of my parents are from the Philippines, and we hadn't been home in about 8 years. So, it was a long awaited trip. Besides visiting my relatives, I also got the opportunity to tour the country. A month wasn’t enough to fully enjoy the beautiful islands.
One part of the Philippines we visited was Davao in Mindanao. There, you're able to ride a boat to different islands, otherwise known as island hopping. The cluster of islands we visited was Britania Islands in Surigao del Sur. Unlike most beaches in Connecticut, the water was so clear that I saw my feet as I walked through it.The water was shimmering different shades of blue, and coconut trees decorated the white sand beaches.
We spent most of our trip in Manila, Philippines since our family lives in a small area of the city, which is Marikina. Marikina is one of the cities that makes up Metro Manila. They also have the cleanest outdoor public markets, which are very convenient for customers.
There are many extravagant malls that are even more high-tech than American malls. In all of the malls, you can find many eateries that sell delicious meals and treats. The stores sell a huge variety of items, ranging from trendy clothing to hardware supplies. One of the popular malls in Luzon is the Venice Piazza Grand Canal Mall at McKinley Hill. The architecture was inspired by one of Italy’s most romantic cities, Venice, and is surrounded by many tall and colorful buildings. There’s an actual canal where you can ride a boat down the blue-green waters, and bulb string lights that light up the night.
Manila is home to the SM Mall of Asia, the 4th largest mall in the world. Honestly, it would take more than a day to truly explore the whole mall. There’s even an amusement park that sits by the bay next to the mall. The Mall of Asia (MOA) really redefines the standard of shopping and entertainment in the Philippines. After shopping there, you’d even wish that the Westfield Trumbull mall looked anything like that. At MOA, there’s an Olympic sized ice skating rink, an IMAX theater, an indoor arena, and plenty of stores to shop for your necessities and items to treat yourself. There are also many sources of delectable foods that would really make you break your diet.
The Philippines is a beautiful country that you should put on your list of the top ten countries you want to visit. The beautiful life and delicious cuisine is just something you have to experience for yourself!
